What are the best wine clubs? How do you tell them apart? Are you paying too much?

The answer to which one is best is really very subjective.
BTW, since you’re on this page, I assume you know that all a wine club is a winery or wine company that prepackages certain wines and ships them to you on a regular basis.
OK, back to the clubs. I think the first question to ask is what do you want in a wine club? The second question is does a particular club meet those wants?
Let’s get into some of the differences so you can better decide which wine club is best for you.
Types or variety of wine
Most wine clubs will offer you different packages of wine. These packages may include red only wines or white only wines or even dessert wines and even mixtures of each.
To break it down even further, the packages may be only wines of a certain variety or from a certain location. Sometimes they are chosen to fit the season.
Decide what types of wine you like and order a package that fits. One thing to note is that it’s easy to get in a comfort level of wine, meaning once you find a type of wine you like you only drink that wine.
Hey live a little. One of the best things about wine is variety. A wine club is perfect to try something new and different.
Prices
One of the best things about the best wine clubs is that they will always sell your shipments of wine at a discount versus buying the wines separately. You can usually expect a 10-20% discount using a wine club compared to the wine shop.
Yes, there are wine clubs that feature very inexpensive wines all the way up to several hundred dollar bottles. Decide on what you are comfortable with and find a club that has an offering in that amount.

Selections
Since the wine clubs pick the type of wine based on what you pre-select, this is where they can be a tremendous help. If you like a little variety in your life or simply unsure about what wine to pick, why not let the wine club do it for you!
One thing to consider is to make sure the wine club has enough of a selection so they won’t run out of different wines to send.
Frequency and Quantity of Shipments
Next choose how much and how often you want your wine delivered. This option is only available at the better clubs, BTW. Most will have monthly or quarterly deliveries.
Wine Clubs for Gifts
I have a friend who is really big on wine clubs. He has monthly shipments sent to his home and also has monthly shipments sent to his best customers as a thank you for their business. What a great idea?
